BOOK REVIEW THE PRISON DOCTOR BY DR AMANDA BROWN

Violence. Drugs. Suicide. Welcome to the world of a Prison Doctor.

Dr Amanda Brown has treated inmates in the UK’s most infamous prisons – first in young offenders’ institutions, then at the notorious Wormwood Scrubs and finally at Europe’s largest women-only prison in Europe, Bronzefield.

From miraculous pregnancies to dirty protests, and from violent attacks on prisoners to heartbreaking acts of self-harm, she has witnessed it all.

In this eye-opening, inspirational memoir, Amanda reveals the stories, the patients and the cases that have shaped a career helping those most of us would rather forget.

Despite their crimes, she is still their doctor.

I borrowed this from the library and absolutly loved it .

Fascinating insight into working in a prison, great detail and some bits made me wince. You must be tough as steel to do this job but also sensitive to the inmates needs! Not a easy combination.

Honest and real account that makes for addictive reading.

BLOG TOUR TRUTH OR DIE BY KATERINA DIAMOND

Their darkest secrets won’t stay buried forever…

The butchered body of a professor is found in a private office of Exeter University. It is the first in a spate of horrific murders that shakes the city to its core.

Who would target a seemingly innocent man, and why? DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles turn to his students for answers, but their investigation turns up no leads. Someone must know more than they’re letting on…

As the body count rises, the police have to look into the past to uncover the person responsible before it’s too late.

But are they brave enough to face up to the truth?

Firstly a big thank you to Sabah for my copy to review and having me on the tour.

Katerina is one of those authors who you dont need to know anything abou the book yet know you’ll love it . So like many other bloggers i was so excited to read! I whizzed through this keeping me company on train journeys.

She is a magnificent author who is certainly on the dark and twisted side. This is book number 5 in the series and ive loved each one. This one sets itself apart atraight away on the charactars development….say no more .

Gritty, disturbing and twisted. Fans of her books know they are in for a rollercoaster of gore and tragedy. Dread to think where she gets her ideas and how she does her research… or intrugued…

Extremely addictive and cant recommend enough.

Published 11th july and check out the other blogs taking part.

BOOK REVIEW THE SINGLE MUMS WISH LIST BY CHARLENE ALLCOTT

Meet Martha Ross. She dreams of being a singer, but she’s been working in a call centre for far too long. She’s separating from her husband, the father of her eighteen-month-old son. And she’s moving back home to her parents, toddler in tow.

Life has thrown her a few lemons . . . but Martha intends to make a gin and tonic.

It’s time to become the woman she’s always wanted to be. And at least her mum’s on hand to provide free childcare – along with ample motherly judgement, of course.

But Martha’s attempts at reinvention – from writing a definitive, non-negotiable list of everything she’s looking for in a new man, to half-marathons, business plans and meditation retreats – tend to go awry in the most surprising of ways. And soon she comes to realise that in order to find lasting love, happiness and fulfilment, she needs to find herself first . . .

Who said starting over was easy?

A warm, vibrant and painfully funny novel that will strike a chord with anyone who’s ever had their heart broken, hasn’t quite got their sh*t together yet, or who finds themselves wide awake at 3am thinking, ‘How did I get here’

I brought this a while ago and finally got round to it. What a book, what a charactar Martha is. As a single mum i could relate in many ways .

Funny, fresh voice of fiction and i couldnt get enough of it

Explores friendships, relationships old and new, parenting and making mistakes. But mostly about discovering who she is and what she wants from life.

Martha is on a journey and its not a easy one , she has a support system but will she listen to their advice.

Genuine laugh out loud moments and many omg what is she doing.

Highly recommend and cant wait to read more from Charlene.

BOOK REVIEW ON MY LIFE BY ANGELA CLARKE

Jenna knows she didn’t do it. But she is running out of time to prove it…
A heartbreaking, compulsive thriller with a killer twist!

Framed. Imprisoned. Pregnant.

Jenna thought she had the perfect life: a loving fiancé, a great job, a beautiful home. Then she finds her stepdaughter murdered; her partner missing.

And the police think she did it…

Locked up to await trial, surrounded by prisoners who’d hurt her if they knew what she’s accused of, certain someone close to her has framed her, Jenna knows what she needs to do:

Clear her name
Save her baby
Find the killer

But can she do it in time?

I have been dying to read this! Been a fan of Angelas from her very first book.

In order to cope with the warmth i put feet up by a fan and read cover to cover . Its an amazing book and one you cant put down.

I felt as a reader i got such a deep insight into prison life, all through the depth of her writing.

Completely shocking and unpredictable this will leave you gobsmacked.

Cleverly written and layered to reveal more about the charactsts as you read on.

Surely Jenna has it all now, or did before going to jail. But things arent what they seem.

What is the truth?

Inspirational story of strength, hope and compassion.

Highly recommend!

BOOK REVIEW AFTER THE END BY CLARE MACKINTOSH

Max and Pip are the strongest couple you know. Only now they’re facing the most important decision of their lives – and they don’t agree.

As the consequences of an impossible choice threaten to devastate them both, nothing will ever be the same again.

But anything can happen after the end . . .

I have been so eager to read this but also somewhat apprehensive as i know Clare as a thriller writer. I actually attended a market research event at her publishers earlier in the year, i got to take part in discussions surroundings her change of marketing audience. I knew the blurb but that was all.I managed to avoid spoilers, even after buying it i didnt immediatly start.Anyway its sunday and i spent my afternoon/evening reading this.I probably wont do it justice as its just such a beautiful book. Incredibly moving and cleverly written.Thought provoking and as a parent it really pulled on my moral compass. What would i do was running through my head throughout the book. Emotive and hard hitting this is story that will stay with you long after you close the pages.

BOOK REVIEW THE WHISPER MAN BY ALEX NORTH

If you leave a door half-open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken . . .

Still devastated after the loss of his wife, Tom Kennedy and his young son Jake move to the sleepy village of Featherbank, looking for a much-needed fresh start.

But Featherbank has a dark past. Fifteen years ago, a twisted serial killer abducted and murdered five young boys.

Until he was finally caught, the killer was known as ‘The Whisper Man’.

Of course, an old crime need not trouble Tom and Jake as they try to settle in to their new home.

Except that now another boy has gone missing. And then Jake begins acting strangely.

He says he hears a whispering at his window . . .

Wow wow wow what a incredible book.

A debut that sets the bar high for this genre.

Scary, chilling atmospheric. This is spooky and terrifying.

If you enjoyed cj tudors the chalk man then you will love this.

Addictive page turner, i was reading at every opportunity!

BOOK REVIEW LIES WE TELL MOTHERS BY SUZY K QUINN

Bestselling author of the Bad Mother books Suzy K Quinn reveals the truth behind the lies we tell mothers, one sleepless night at a time.

Suzy and Demi were carefree twenty-somethings. They had fun! They didn’t have responsibilities! And then they decided to have a baby. Goodbye lazy weekends, hello sleepless nights, arguments and an addiction to industrial-strength hot chocolate.

In the midst of this major life change, Suzy discovered that most parenting advice should be taken with a pinch of salt—or ten.

For example:

#1 Lie—Just go with your mother’s instinct. But what if your instinct is telling you to hide under the stairs?

#10 Lie—Your new baby will tell you what it needs. Not if it can’t talk it won’t.

#23 Lie—You should never bribe your children. You will ALWAYS bribe your children.

Follow Suzy on the ultimate make-over—from nervous-wreck new mother to happy families. In this hilarious and refreshingly honest account for parents who prefer the realistic to the utopian, Suzy debunks the myths and takes us all along for the (bumpy) ride.

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review . I shared my review for Suzys psychological thriller recently…its amazing, so i was intrigued to read something quite different from her

I devoured this and some parts i could have written myself. This is how parenting really is.

Funny, real, honest and raw this is a excellent book about the rollercoaster that is being a mum .

Truth is none of us know what we are doing , just some adapt a lot quicker

I resonated so much with these words , i always think if i could go back to that 18 year old me feeling numb i would hug her and reassure her.

Its so refreshing to read even now as mum to 17 and 13 year old that others struggle and no one is perfect.

Highly recommend for new mums for reassurance or for ones who have been there for the comedy element.

My favourite lie would be they grow up so fast .. theres a quote which says about days dragging but the years fly. Its so true..i remembed wishing time away with my first then with second it was all slow down. Parenting…the guilt that keeps on guilting!!

Parenting is hard as it is without the added pressure and guilt . So sit back and enjoy this read!

Published 1st August .

BOOK REVIEW STRINGS ATTACHED BY ERIN REINELT

For fans of Dolly Alderton, Holly Bourne and Fleabag, this is a fun, fresh romcom that will have you laughing in recognition and yelling in solidarity.

Straight-laced Jean has always done what’s expected of her.

Her traditional parents want Jean to be in a relationship which will distract them from the shamble of their own marriage. She is at the beck and call of her demonic boss who is constantly yelling at her to sort out the clusterf**ks left by grown men. And her overgrown baby of a boyfriend, Charlie has just heckled her friend’s wedding and set fire to the marquee. Jean keeps cleaning up other people’s messes.

Until now.

Taking her life into her own hands, she decides to do stand up to her boss, her parents and do something that takes her out of her comfort zone. She will be a woman heels-over-head, and not head-over-heels, in love. After Jean dumps Charlie, she meets married-but-open pianist Gabriel and decides to explores all that modern romance has to offer… but can relationships last without entangled hearts being broken?

Jean is about to find out.

Featuring an unforgettable cast of characters, this novel is an homage to female-friendship, empowerment and love, which will have you laughing-out-loud and rooting for Jean all the way.

Firstly a big thanks to trapeze for my copy to review. This sounded a real tonic to read.

Its modern, fun and fresh . Sexy, naughty and hilarious!

This had me literally lol on the train, i could relate to Jean so much.

Shes fed up and wakes up to realisation shes not happy. Rather than carry on moaning she does something about it. Steps out of her comfort zone and embraces the new her.

There are funny moments but also endearing ones..but more importantly there are lot of wtf moments.

She starts to realise her worth and wont accept anything less than she deserves. .. and i think we all need to embrace that attitude.

Highly recommend especially if you need a pick me up book that will have you cackling !

A unique love story that feels so culturaly relevant in 2019.

I was due to be on the tour for this book, but my copy got lost. So i brought a copy and devoured it ! I am definitely team Heidi , she is a phenomenal writer.

Her debut is easily one of the best reads of 2019 for me .Its always a worry if the author can do it again after such success with a debut… and she can and has.

Come back for me is intriguing packed with mystery, secrets and lies.We all remember our childhoods in different ways and how would we feel if challenged to those memories and feelings. We know whos right or wrobg…dont we?

Layered with suspense this is a compelling and captivating read. With twists and turns you cant predict whete this is going or who has secrets to hide.

I highly recommend Heidi’s books and cant wait to read more!
