BOOK REVIEW LIE WITH ME BY SABINE DURRANT

The truth is, we all tell lies… take a deep breath and get ready for the most twisty, tense and unsettling book of the summer.

‘If, like me, you have been longing for a psycho-thriller of genius since you finished Gone Girl, then the wait is finally over. There are very few books in this world that are impossible to put down. Lie With Me is one of them.’ Tony Parsons

It starts with a lie. The kind we’ve all told – to a former acquaintance we can’t quite place but still, for some reason, feel the need to impress. The story of our life, embellished for the benefit of the happily married lawyer with the kids and the lovely home.

And the next thing you know, you’re having dinner at their house, and accepting an invitation to join them on holiday – swept up in their perfect life, the kind you always dreamed of…

Which turns out to be less than perfect. But by the time you’re trapped and sweating in the relentless Greek sun, burning to escape the tension all around you – by the time you start to realise that, however painful the truth might be, it’s the lies that cause the real damage…

… well, by then, it could just be too late.

Firstly thank you to the team at Bookbridgr for sending me a copy to review .

After  aslow reading week this was just the book required to wake me up .

Everything about this book is inviting and gripping ,the cover and title really work well at setting the theme .Upon  a few chapters you will find yourself hooked !

I whizzed through this and was left feeling quite shocked as I did not see the storyline going in the direction it did .

Its been a while since ive read purely from a mans narrative and that was really exciting and fresh . I felt I was right under his skin and at times not liking him very much and other times feeling sorry for him . As a reader we want to feel these range of emotions .

Cleverly written packed full of suspense and twists and turns ,this will have you wanting more till you finish the last page  and then some !

We start off in London and finish in Greece so a great shift in location but lies don’t disappear and charactars don’t lose their flaws on a plane .

This is fuelled with tension and a darkness that evern the scorching greek sun cant hide .

A real page turner of a psychological thriller incredibly written and set to be a summer hit !

Do we every know anyone ?

do we ever know ourselves ?

BOOK REVIEW OUT OF PRACTICE BY PENNY PARKES

Out of Practice is based around a large country medical practice, which proves to be a hotbed of rivalry, resentment and romance – and that’s just the doctors. Think James Herriot meets House.

Meet married mum of two and successful GP Holly Graham as she relocates her family to join the team at The Practice at Beckerford, hoping to find the peaceful life she craves, despite the chaos that comes with her two year old twins and the troublesome state of her marriage. It will certainly be a challenge to keep her private and professional lives separate in such a tight-knit community.

Her colleagues have their own issues to contend with. The gorgeous Dr Dan Carter is struggling with to focus on work and the last thing he needs is any more stress; having his ambitious ex-girlfriend Dr Julia Channing working alongside him isn’t really helping. Thankfully, the rather delectable Dr Taffy Jones is on hand to distract Holly from the escalating situation at home.

Feisty octogenarian and resident celebrity, Elsie Townsend, is Holly’s favourite patient and saving grace. Elsie’s inspirational Life Lessons come at the perfect moment, as The Practice is suddenly under threat of imminent closure and Holly rediscovers her voice and her priorities just in time …

Firstly thanks to Sara-jade at books and the city for my copy which I was lucky enough to get signed earlier in the year .

Apologies for taking so long to get to this book and after loving it so much I can’t believe I didn’t read it sooner

This book is great and holds all the key ingredients for a bestselling chick lit .The fact that this is Pennys debut book is quite shocking . And simply makes me belive she’s going to be  a huge success .

Her writing is warm witty and enjoyable. I was hooked straight away and was reading at every availability to find out what would happen to the residents of Larkford .

This book is about finding out who you really are and not what others want you to be !

I could relate to Holly in some ways but she had my respect at holding down a career as a working mum .She is in a marriage which is hardly making her feel like a Disney princess and you will find yourself rooting for her to wake up and smell the coffee.

Not only does Holly learn to speak up for herself but also for  Larkford as  a whole and she has a huge impact on those she meets .

My favourite character has to be Elsie full of glamorous tales and yummy cocktails mixed with wisdom to give to people .  She is comedy gold and made me howl on the bus with one of her sentences about enourmous hands ….

Then there’s the men dishy dan and hunky taffy …. I love the Welsh accent so taffy gets my vote that way .However I think Dan has a deeper side who has experienced some pain .

Such a great read about friendship ,family and new beginnings .

I cant wait to read more from Penny but also to be reunited with all the resicdents from Larkford .

Perfect for fans of Carole matthews  and Alexandra brown .

I wish her every success with her debut book .

Publshed in paperback 28th July

But maybe not this time …

I can review this now I’ve picked my jaw off the floor.

When I finished this I swore and gasped and shouted I love books !!

This is one of those books that hooks you in and keeps you hooked till you turn the last page .

This is more creepy and twisty than a dark forest at Halloween .

Superbly written and full of suspense.

When you think you know where it’s going …boom there’s another twist .

I did not see the twist coming .

Through Sharon’s excellent writing we as readers are able to get right into the characters head and it’s not always pleasant.

This is a book that got right under my skin and shook me up.

I couldn’t put it down especially towards the end .

Definitely one of my top books of the year so far .

So take my word for it go read it !

Firstly a huge thanks to Harper Collins for the chance to read and review .I  was very intrigued when I was seeing other bloggers copies .

24 hours on from finishing this book I’m still haunted by it.

I read it in record time and I knew from the first few chapters this was going to be  a addictive book and I was thrilled it was the weekend enabling me the time to devour it.

I love psychological thrillers and as a reviewer having the opportunity  to read them in advance still excites me .

This book is going to be huge !

It is dark and twisted and will leave you emotionally drained upon finishing .

This is superbly written and very clever .

I found myself second guessing what had happened and what was going to happen .

I was constantly asking myself who is the bad guy ??

The dual narrative and the alternate chapters of now and then give it that extra suspense .

I loved it and even more so as some of it is based in Erith where I live !!! every bookworms dream surely …

This is storyline that’s layered but also unravels the more we learn about each character ..

I was shocked as we learn what really happened between these friends .

Cleverly written with full on suspense .

Book review the trouble with Henry and Zoe by Andy jones

Henry and Zoe have more in common than they realise. For a start they both have pasts they’d rather leave behind.

After jolting his childhood sweetheart on the eve of their wedding ,Henry makes a break for London. He has no friends,no job,no home ,no plan.

Zoe has great  friends, two jobs ,a new house ,and a big scary plan. After a traumatic ,life changing event, she plans to leave London and spend a year travelling . Alone.

If Henry and Zoe had met one year ago ,things might have worked out differently . But that’s not the way life works . They meet seven months after theirs worlds have been turned upside down . And fire months before Zoe is due to climb on a plane …

Firstly a big thank you to Jamie at Simon & schuster for sending me a review copy.

I was a very lucky blogger who got to read Andys debut book lAst year The two of us .

I enjoyed his debut a lot but I think it’s fair to say he has written an even better second book!!

Once I started I couldn’t stop and in actual fact I didn’t until I had finished

This is funny witty and so true to real life.

Life doesn’t go the way we plan and sometimes we have to pause and listen to our gut.

That’s exactly what Henry does and that started my love for him as he went with his instinct which is something I do. It’s not always easy and you can upset people in process . But a man after my own heart he wanted sparks and passion and wasn’t prepared to settle .

And why should we ??!!

He meets Zoe through fate /chance …another belief of mine 🙂

Zoe is grieving and having to reassess her life and question what next??

She thinks she knows her next step then Henry happens .

A spark ???

What follows is their summer of love and fun.

But what happens when summer is over?

Will Zoe step on the plane?

Will Henry go and face his past?

Will there be a Henry and Zoe ?

A great read about taking chances ,new beginnings and that spark .

I loved it and I would like a sequel mr Jones???!!!

Fast paced fun and a perfect summer read .

Thank you to Rhoda for sending me a review copy .

I absolutely adored Beth’s last book so was eager to start this one.

Beth writes about real hard hitting issues that the reader can get their teeth into . I could relate to a few myself .

This is a book full of warmth ,wit and charm .

Hard to put down and characters you want to become friends with.

A big focus is on friendships and how we can grow as a individual. We watch a lot of the women grow in strength and find themselves .

Dylan was lovely ! And think he had a lot to answer to when it came to our leading lady .

A absolute treat of a book and I firmly believe Beth’s writing just goes from strength to strength .

Apologies for the lay out of this review ,currently having technical difficulties!

BOOK REVIEW THE DARKEST SECRET BY ALEX MARWOOD

Firstly thank you to Kirsteen for sending me a review copy.

In my personal opinion this is her best book so far.

It’s incredibly dark and menacing with some characters I certainly wouldn’t want to invite for dinner.

It is twisted and also has some unexpected twists and shocks.

Once you get to grips with who is who and the alternative narratives and time frame it’s a book which pulls you in.

Addictive and compelling .

There are some clear similarities to the Madeleine McCann case which only adds to the chill.

A story layered with secrets deception and scandal .

I had to know what happened and it has haunted me since I turned that last page

BOOK REVIEW UNDER A CORNISH SKY BY LIZ FENWICK

Shortlisted for the RNA Contemporary Romantic Novel of the Year 2016*

Demi desperately needs her luck to change. On the sleeper train down to Cornwall, she can’t help wondering why everything always goes wrong for her. After years of a loveless marriage and many secret affairs of her own, Victoria thinks new widowhood will suit her very well indeed . . .

But both women are in for a surprise. Surrounded by orchards, gardens and the sea, Boscawen is about to play an unexpected role in both their lives. Can two such different women find a way forward when luck changes both their lives so drastically?

In UNDER A CORNISH SKY Liz Fenwick weaves another deliciously irresistible tale set in the heart of her beloved Cornwall.

Firstly thanks to Elaine for sending me a copy to review .I think this is the first of Lizs books I have read which is always something exciting as I love discovering different authors.

I have never visited Cornwall and reading this with its beautiful descriptive   setting has made me want to visit it even more . It always sounds so magical and romantic .

The 2 women in this book are very different to each other however learn they have a similar interest which will either bring them closer or even further apart .

This is a story of love loss family and new beginnings .

We watch Demi grow as a woman when she embraces her new life in Cornwall with new friends and interests and she really turns her life around .

However it was Victoria who I enjoyed reading about and she reminded me of a Disney villain however we learn there’s a softer side however hidden and she is certainly about to have her luck changed .

Definitely a summer read and one to enjoy 🙂

BOOK REVIEW HOW NOT TO DISAPPEAR BY CLARE FURNISS

I loved the year of the rat when I read that last year so was very eager to read her next book.

There’s always that pressure on a author I imagine after their debut novel being so great and loved ,that where do they go with their following book.

Well I’m sure like many other fans would agree that her second book is just as brilliant if not more in my personal opinion.

I could relate to the storylines at such a personal level which always enhances my reading experience.

This is a book that will leave you feeling warm but also emotional.

I cried (what’s new) .

Beautifully written great characters who are funny and full of life.

Theirs history romance friendships secrets and family .

Throughly enjoyed this life affirming book which I’m now screaming at my teenager to read!!

Thank you for writing such a rich warm story that will always stay with me.
