BOOK REVIEW THE RISING TIDE BY SAM LLOYD

HOW DID IT COME TO THIS?

The news doesn’t strike cleanly, like a guillotine’s blade. Nothing so merciful. This news is a slovenly traveller, dragging its feet, gradually revealing its horrors. And it announces itself first with violence – the urgent hammering of fists on the front door.

Life can change in a heartbeat.

Lucy has everything she could wish for: a beautiful home high on the clifftops, a devoted husband and two beloved children.

Then one morning, time stops. Their family yacht is recovered, abandoned far out at sea. Lucy’s husband is nowhere to be found and as the seconds tick by, she begins to wonder – what if he was the one who took the boat? And if so, where is he now?

As a once-in-a-generation storm frustrates the rescue operation, Lucy pieces together what happened onboard. And then she makes a fresh discovery. One that plunges her into a nightmare more shocking than any she could ever have imagined . . .

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review on netgalley. I really enjoyed his debut last year so was excited to read this.

It didn’t dissapoint! This is a incredible book that was shocking ,and completely unpredictable.

Written with excellent writing that sets the scene and tone of the story. You think it’s going one way to be shocked.

Every mothers worst nightmare is played out in these pages and you can feel Lucy’s pain.

Excellently plotted ,fast paced ,gripping and chilling.

BOOK REVIEW THE HOLLOWS BY MARK EDWARDS

With his marriage over and his career in freefall, journalist Tom decides to reconnect with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Frankie. Desperate to spend precious time together now that they live an ocean apart, he brings her to Hollow Falls, a cabin resort deep in the woods of Maine.

From the outset there’s something a little eerie about the place—strange whispers in the trees, windchimes echoing through the forest—but when Tom meets true-crime podcasters David and Connie, he receives a chilling warning. Hollow Falls has a gruesome history: twenty years ago this week, a double slaying shut down the resort. The crime was never solved, and now the woods are overrun with murder-obsessed tourists looking to mark the grim anniversary.

It’s clear that there’s something deeply disturbing going on at Hollow Falls. And as Tom’s dream trip turns into a nightmare, he and Frankie are faced with a choice: uncover the truth, or get out while they still can.

I finally downloaded a copy of this , I absolutely love Mark’s books and always recommend him to other readers.

This had a real Stephen King atmospheric chilling feel to it. Fast paced ,we see a father and daughter trip away go from much needed to help get me home!

It’s dark ,haunting and thrilling.

Published 8th July so definitely a summer read.
